Meet the Birds

Here at Kaya Bird we raise Freedom Ranger chickens and these guys are amazing.  They are a dual-purpose breed.  That means you can raise them as layers (egg laying birds) or broilers (meat birds).  As you know by now, we raise them as broilers and oh my goodness they are delicious! 

Our Freedom Rangers are slower growing than the standard Cornish Cross broiler.  They are great foragers and enjoy being out on pasture. They are curious and when moving them to fresh grass daily, it’s so fun to watch them investigate their new spot!  They are friendly, and mostly greet with you with gentle pecks when you enter their coop.  It is a pleasure to raise them!

Their meat is tender and juicy.  They are fattier than conventional broiler breeds and as a result have a much richer flavor. These guys can get big!  We sell birds between 3 and 6 pounds.  With these versatile weights you can decide if you need a chicken for tonight’s dinner or for your weekly meal prep.  Currently, we only sell whole birds and when roasted in the oven with just salt, pepper, garlic, butter, and lemon wedges, you get a meal that will satisfy everyone.  Lastly, while you enjoy these birds, you can feel good knowing that they had a great life on pasture regenerating our soil.  These birds do so much more than provide food for all of us. 

All we ask is that you compost what you don’t use of the bird.  Send it back to the earth so that it can be part of a full life cycle.  With your help, their entire existence can make our planet better.  When you eat these birds, you are directly taking part in a system that seeks to do right by all.  Kaya Bird: Honor the Bird, Honor the Planet.
